In the vein of Big Little Lies and Reconstructing Amelia comes an emotionally charged domestic suspense novel about a mother unraveling the truth behind how her daughter became brain dead. And pregnant.

A search for the truth. A lifetime of lies.

In the small hours of the morning, Abi Knight is startled awake by the phone call no mother ever wants to get: her teenage daughter Olivia has fallen off a bridge. Not only is Olivia brain dead, she’s pregnant and must remain on life support to keep her baby alive. And then Abi sees the angry bruises circling Olivia’s wrists.

When the police unexpectedly rule Olivia’s fall an accident, Abi decides to find out what really happened that night. Heartbroken and grieving, she unravels the threads of her daughter’s life. Was Olivia’s fall an accident? Or something far more sinister?

Christina McDonald weaves a suspenseful and heartwrenching tale of hidden relationships, devastating lies, and the power of a mother’s love. With flashbacks of Olivia’s own resolve to uncover family secrets, this taut and emotional novel asks: how well do you know your children? And how well do they know you?

Review:

One of my favorite books this year! For a debut novel, she did an outstanding job. This was a plot that was believable and quickly became a book I couldn’t put down.
The story switches voices between Olivia and her mother Abi. While Olivia is telling you how she landed in the hospital pregnant and brain dead, her mother is searching for the reason Olivia fell and who was responsible.
There are many twists and turns throughout the story. I felt there were about five people who could be to blame for Olivia’s fall and I had to know which one it was! I love a book that keeps my mind churning even when I am not reading.  If you are like me, you will love The Night Olivia Fell. This was Christina McDonald’s first novel and she has a new one coming out on February 4, 2020. Don’t miss it! I won’t.

From the bestselling author of The Marriage Lie and Three Days Missing comes a riveting new novel of suspense about a woman who, in a fight for survival, must decide just how far she’ll go to escape the person she once loved

Beth Murphy is on the run…

For nearly a year, Beth has been planning for this day. A day some people might call any other Wednesday, but Beth prefers to see it as her new beginning–one with a new look, new name and new city. Beth has given her plan significant thought, because one small slip and her violent husband will find her.

Sabine Hardison is missing…

A couple hundred miles away, Jeffrey returns home from a work trip to find his wife, Sabine, is missing. Wherever she is, she’s taken almost nothing with her. Her abandoned car is the only evidence the police have, and all signs point to foul play.

As the police search for leads, the case becomes more and more convoluted. Sabine’s carefully laid plans for her future indicate trouble at home, and a husband who would be better off with her gone. The detective on the case will stop at nothing to find out what happened and bring this missing woman home. Where is Sabine? And who is Beth? The only thing that’s certain is that someone is lying and the truth won’t stay buried for long.

Review:

“Dear Wife” is a gripping, captivating, take-your-breath-away novel!

Kimberly Belle has become the household name for Domestic Suspense, so by the time, “Dear Wife” was released, I was thrilled with excitement when UPS delivered it!

Then due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to purchase the audiobook as well, and it was just stunning! They did an amazing job narrating. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this story….It made everything come to life!

The secrets, the not-knowing, the twists and turns…I repeat, the actual “not-knowing” who one of the main characters truly was, became such an intense hunt that I could not stop listening.

The urge to get to the end was such a powerful force that when I did finally get there…WOW!!!

So…Proceed with caution, because Belle gives us a powerful shock at the end that I was not expecting.

Well done Kimberly Belle!! Well done!!

5 Stars.

#BookReview: The Night Before by Wendy Walker

The NIght BeforeSummary:

Devastated by the end of her last relationship, she fled her Wall Street job and New York City apartment for her sister’s home in the Connecticut suburb where they both grew up. Though still haunted by the tragedy that’s defined her entire life, Laura is determined to take one more chance on love with a man she’s met on an Internet dating site.

Rosie Ferro has spent most of her life worrying about her troubled sister. Fearless but fragile, Laura has always walked an emotional tightrope, and Rosie has always been there to catch her. Laura’s return, under mysterious circumstances, has cast a shadow over Rosie’s peaceful life with her husband and young son – a shadow that grows darker as Laura leaves the house for her blind date.

When Laura does not return home the following morning, Rosie fears the worst. She’s not responding to calls or texts, and she’s left no information about the man she planned to meet. As Rosie begins a desperate search to find her sister, she is not just worried about what this man might have done to Laura. She’s worried about what Laura may have done to him…

Review:

Genius Move! Wendy Walker entices us with such delightful little tidbits of information throughout this novel that we actually feel as though we are figuring it out; only we are not. This is everything a psychological thriller is supposed to be and more!

Laura is going out on her date. With Jonathan, the man she met online. Her sister Rosie is helping her get ready, but she is nervous because Laura has a history that may make this night not go quite so perfectly. She is still hopeful. Laura is also nervous because of that same history. Her mind is wandering. Does this man stand a chance? Or, Does she?

Told from various timeframes only heightened my suspense. There was so much to tell, this was perfect.

The ending was miraculous.

So, I highly recommend that you join Laura as she chooses Johnathan Fields on findlove.com and go on the date with her.

I promise you will not regret it.

Oh, and Dr. Brody. You must meet him.

ps. I loved this cover.

#BookReview: Crimson Falls Novella – The Stranger in the Woods by Kiersten Modglin

The Stranger in the Woods CoverSummary:

Arlie Montgomery is no stranger to tragedy.
In fact, tragedy brought Arlie everything she’d ever dreamed of in one fell swoop.

As a thriller author, Arlie should’ve had it easy. Growing up in the town of Crimson Falls, there was no shortage of inspiration, after all.

When her husband’s tragic death becomes national news, Arlie’s failing career skyrockets overnight. Suddenly she has everything she ever wanted, except the man she’d hoped to share her dream with.

As she approaches the anniversary of her husband’s death, Arlie finds a stranger in the woods outside of her town. A man with no memory of who he is or why he came to Crimson Falls. Desperate and lonely, Arlie takes him into her home.

With the town’s own anniversary—the cursed Founders Day—drawing near, crime levels rise and the annual murders begin. This year, the deaths take on a new twist: the killer is copying the murders from Arlie’s books.

As suspicions surrounding the stranger grow, Arlie must solve the mysteries she’s spent years writing. In a race against time, Arlie must stop the killer she may have created before he takes out the last victim from her books—her.

Review:

Well Done!! This book is Amazing! I was totally blown away at the end! Talk about the unexpected twist! Kiersten Modglin delivers a fantastic tale involving love and murder all wrapped into a delicious little package!!

You will not put this down!! If you want a thriller that will keep you guessing from the very first page to the last, this is the book for you.

Arlie and Brett Montgomery are living in Crimson Falls, until tragedy strikes, and he is killed at his job. After his death Arlie’s life will never be the same. Will she ever recover? If she does, how will she?

She meets Mason.

I must leave it at that. Otherwise, I am giving away the story.

I have to say I am so excited about this author; she is extremely talented at surprising the reader. I was absolutely “Wow’d’! After I finished the book I had to sit back and let it the story sink in. I cannot wait to read her other books!

Original Sin by Greta Cribbs:

What drives a man to become a killer?
When Dr. Meredith Bowen gets the opportunity to interview Duane Tolloch, a man convicted of committing multiple murders between 1965 and 1967, all she can think about is the needed boost this assignment will give to her career. A seasoned psychiatrist, she is no stranger to the darker regions of the human mind, but as Tolloch relates his tale of a “town curse” and a cycle of abuse that stretches back before he was even born, his story shakes Meredith’s preconceived notions about the nature of the human psyche, as well as her faith in science, to the core.
Was Tolloch simply a man who chose the wrong path, or did his abusive childhood create the monster he grew up to be?
Or could the theory of the town curse actually be true?

Review:

I was enraptured by this story. To be listening to a Serial Killer tell his story and feel empathy for him at the same time was very unsettling to say the least. But, wasn’t that the point?
Greta Cribbs delivers a very precise story about psychiatrist Meredith Bowen going to interview Serial Killer Duane Tolloch with a film crew in tow. He is at a Hospital for the Criminally Insane since murdering 3 college students.
But, as he tells his story you begin to wonder if he is a product of his upbringing? Or, was it that he was conceived on October 13th in Crimson Falls?
Wonderfully written. Fabulous Characters. Story not to be missed!

The Last Dupont by Rachel Renee:

Ella Dupont learned the cruel truth about death at a young age. By the time she was five, her daddy had been murdered and her older sister died mysteriously. After deeming the town cursed, Ella’s momma whisked her away to start a new life, far from CrimsonFalls.
Twenty years later, Ella gets a phone call, discovering she is the last living relative to the Dupont name, appointed with the task of settling her grandmother’s’s estate. Her momma warned her never to return to the town, but Ella doesn’t believe in curses.
The moment she arrives in Crimson Falls, the town draws her in. Ella extends her visit, desperate to unravel her history from the towns mysterious past. She soon discovers that buried secrets could threaten the life of the last Dupont.

Review:

To say this story surprised me at the end is not giving it enough credit, because it came at me like a car going 0-60 mph! The shock stood with me all day! It was that incredible. I did not see it coming!
Ella is the Last DuPont and She goes back to Crimson Falls to close out her Grandmothers Estate only to learn certain things along the way about her family and herself. Does Crimson Falls have a Curse? You will have to read this book to find out and I have to say that if you miss this one you are missing out!!

5 Stars.

Sight in the Dark by AM Ialacci:

When recently divorced Cleo Kemp inherits a house in the small town of Crimson Falls, she jumps at the opportunity to start over in the seemingly idyllic location. A photographer struggling to find work, Cleo stumbles into the woods looking for a dead body announced on her police scanner. But she’s not prepared for what she finds — the body of her handyman, and the only man in town who has seen her at her most vulnerable, Officer Will Truman.
Still reeling from being discarded by her second husband, Cleo has a hard time with trust, keeping everyone at arm’s length. But when she’s thrown into assisting Officer Truman with the case, she becomes consumed by the investigation. As she learns that every neighbor harbors dark secrets, she starts to wonder how she can really call Crimson Falls home, and if she can trust the man she’s starting to care for.
When the killer strikes again, closer to home than Cleo ever thought possible, she grows desperate to learn the truth. But in a town riddled with secrets, lies, and mysteries, is there such a thing?

Review:

A.M. Ialacci weaves a fabulous tale about Crimson falls and its Founders Day!
Cleo Kemp and her dog Oliver drive to Crimson falls to escape Cleo’s second bad marriage and to possibly settle in to her Great-Aunt Mildred’s home. There, she meets the handyman Nicholas only to have him found murdered in the woods just a few days later!
Cleo gets herself involved in the case with Officer Will Truman, more so than she expects and it is quite exciting! I could not put this one down.
