Annie: First, I’d like to say that I cannot wait to read about you and your husband meeting, etc. This is going to be fun, I can tell! I loved the first book in your series, and cannot wait to read the other two! We are going to be great friends! 🙂
I also love how your covers are unique, and stand out in a way that says “this is a book by Glynis Astie!!
Q: When did you realize you were a novelist?
I’ve never actually had that “aha!” moment. After my second son was born, it became clear I would stay at home with my boys-since paying for daycare would take the majority of my salary. One night, I had a dream that I wrote a book–which was totally bizarre, since I had never aspired to be a novelist. The thought kept nagging me, so after a few weeks, I gave in and began writing my ideas down. Three months later, I had a book! It was amazing!
Annie: I cannot believe that you wrote a book in 3 months. That is amazing! You are definitely a natural!
Q: As you would gear up for your book releases, what was the most exciting part(s) for you?
I LOVE revealing the cover. My sister is an amazing graphic artist and she very patiently translates my ideas into the final product. (I’m extremely jealous of her. She got all the talent in the family!) Books are definitely judged–at least initially–by their covers and she gives me a great way to pull readers in. Then it’s up to me to capture them with my glowing wit!
Annie: I say you have a talented family! That is great!
Q: Will you always write stories based on your real life events? Is that your favorite topic to explore?
Since my career as an author began accidentally as a way to tell the world about my whirlwind romance with a sexy, intelligent and charismatic Frenchman, my first three books were based on my real life. The book I’m currently writing is *gasp* complete fiction. I’m a little nervous, but mostly excited. It’s quite freeing to invent a story from start to finish, having your characters follow a path you never expected. And not having to worry about your family being annoyed with how you represented them in a book? Priceless.
Annie: I am in love with your love story!!! Knowing that it comes from a real love story is so cool!
Q: Is there an author that you feel resonates with you and your writing style?
I’m a huge fan of wacky heroines, so I identify with Sophie Kinsella and Helen Fielding. Becky Bloomwood and Bridget Jones made me laugh harder than I had in a long time! I’ve been told by a few readers that I remind them of Janet Evanovich with my casual tone and asides to the reader. I was truly humbled by these comments and have added many of her books to my reading list.
Annie: I can see how your writing style is like Helen Fielding…Definitely as much fun to read, too!
Q: When do you typically write? Where do you write? Set this up for us…
I’m a stay-at-home mom, so writing time is extremely difficult to find. I have two very active boys who keep me on my toes! Most of my writing takes place while they are in school, since I lack the ability to rise before the sun and my brain is no longer capable of logical thought after they go to bed. As far as where I write…brace yourself! Most of my writing takes place while sitting on my couch. How’s that for exciting? Perhaps I spent too many years behind a desk and my body now craves the comfort of fluffy furniture to allow my creativity to flow. Whatever the reason, it works for me!
Here is Glynis with her Feline Advisor!
Q: May I ask who your favorite authors are? Books?
I have been a fan of Lucy Maude Montgomery for years. I wanted to be Anne and move to Green Gables. As mentioned earlier, I love Sophie Kinsella and Helen Fielding as well as Jennifer Weiner and Jane Green. I also enjoy mysteries and suspense, with Agatha Christie as my absolute favorite author.
Annie: Ok, you had me at Anne at Green Gables! I need to reread that book. and, I must read Sophie Kinsella…I have the books, but have not read them yet…Same with Jennifer Weiner. I love Jane Green!!
Q: What is your favorite part of being an author?
Making my readers laugh, hands down. When I read a review where the person mentions laughing out loud while reading one of my books, I have a smile on my face all day. I crack myself up often as I write, but it’s much better to elicit such a reaction from a complete stranger. 🙂
Annie: Consider yourself accomplished! I was laughing out loud!
Q: When can we expect your next book? Do you want to tell us a little bit about it?
My plan is to release my next book in the spring of 2016. I have decided to add a small element of fantasy to my chick lit this time. It won’t be like anything you’ve read before!
Annie: Very excited!!
Q: Do you have hobbies outside of writing?
Many! I love to bake. I’m constantly trying out new cupcake, cookie, brownie–pretty much every kind of sweets–recipes. Since I love baking so much I spend a lot of time exercising. I read often and watch far too much TV for my own good. I’m a total Netflix junkie.
Lastly, Book or eBook??
This is a tough question to answer. Nothing can replace the feel of a book in your hands. I love the smell of the fresh ink and the feel of the pages in my hand as I turn them. However, I’m a voracious reader (which helps to explain why it takes me so long to release a new book) and I thoroughly enjoy having a variety of books at my disposal while I’m out and about. I spend a lot of time in various waiting rooms and never know what kind of book I will be in the mood for. (That’s right! I live on the edge and read more than one book at a time.) In addition, my purse is already weighed down with my two sons’ various accoutrements and my Kindle is lighter than an actual book! Practicality wins out for me.
Annie: Thank you for taking the time to let us all get to know you better….I am excited to see who wins your Giveaways! This is a great prize! #SPRINKLELOVE
~~Author Bio~~
Glynis never expected in her wildest dreams to be a writer. After thirteen years in the Human Resources Industry, she decided to stay at home with her two amazing sons. Ever in search of a project, she was inspired to write the story of how she met and married her wonderfully romantic French husband, Sebastien, in six short months. The end result became her first novel, French Twist. As this was just the beginning of their epic love story, Glynis continued to chronicle their adventures in the sequel, French Toast and the final installment in the series, French Fry.
When Glynis is not writing, she is trying to keep the peace amongst the three men and two cats in her life, finding missing body parts (Lego pieces are small!), supervising a myriad of homework assignments and keeping a tenuous hold on her sanity by consuming whatever chocolate is in the vicinity.
